Keep project rules clear
A fresh session can pick up the work.
Check which instructions the agent loads
Write a few rules that match this repository, then verify which files load. Avoid importing another team’s assumptions. Use a skill for a repeated workflow with clear inputs and results.
A recipe is useful when you repeat the same cooking steps.
When is a skill useful?
Use a skill for repeated work, such as reviewing one function with a consistent report. Define triggers, exclusions and output. The environment still controls access.
A recipe helps you repeat a dish; it does not give you access to a kitchen.
Practice
Write project instructions and try a handoff.
Read README.md. Create only [AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md] and handoff.md inside lab: run/test commands, edit boundaries and unfinished work. Do not duplicate model.mjs contracts or add tools.
Check your work
Documented commands work.
A fresh session can identify remaining failures and the next step.
